Wema Bank Plc has officially launched an upgraded version of its flagship digital banking platform, ALAT by Wema, marking a significant leap forward in digital banking in Nigeria. The newly enhanced platform, branded ALAT: The Evolution, aims to deliver a faster, smarter, and more intuitive banking experience for customers while reinforcing Wema Bank’s position as a leader in technology-driven financial services.
According to the bank, the upgraded app introduces several innovative features designed to simplify everyday banking. One of the key highlights is voice banking, known as SAW, which allows customers to carry out banking activities using natural voice commands. This feature reduces friction, enhances accessibility for all users, and enables account management without the need for manual navigation through app menus.
In addition, the app now supports Tap & Pay, allowing for quick, secure, and convenient contactless transactions at merchants and retail outlets. Another significant enhancement is the uptime prediction feature, which provides real-time insights into the availability of banking services, ensuring customers can plan transactions with confidence and transparency regarding system reliability.
“Together, these innovations are designed to simplify everyday banking while anticipating customer needs in real time, reinforcing Wema Bank’s commitment to trust, efficiency, and customer-centric digital experiences,” the bank said in a statement.
Speaking at the launch event, Managing Director and CEO, Moruf Oseni, said:
“ALAT: The Evolution is more than an upgrade. It is a clear demonstration of our commitment to redefining digital banking in Africa. By understanding the future of banking and listening closely to our customers, we have upgraded ALAT by Wema to a platform that is smart, intelligent, and dependable. This evolution reinforces our promise to deliver innovation that genuinely enhances how people live, work, and transact every day.”
Oseni emphasized that existing users could seamlessly migrate to the upgraded platform without losing any data. Customers simply need to update the app through the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and log in using their existing credentials. All account information, transaction history, and profiles remain intact, and the newly added features are automatically activated. New customers can download the app and begin using it by selecting the Get Started option, completing onboarding smoothly without friction.
Chief Digital Officer, Olusegun Adeniyi, provided further insight into the technology behind the upgrade:
“With ALAT: The Evolution, we set out to enhance not just functionality, but the overall banking experience.
