BIC is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its flagship BIC 1 razor, a product that has shaped daily grooming habits in Nigeria and worldwide since its introduction in 1975. The milestone underscores the company’s commitment to innovation, quality, and consumer trust over five decades.
The BIC 1 pioneered the low-cost, single-piece disposable razor concept, with production now spanning factories in Greece, France, Mexico, Brazil, and Kenya, supplying more than 160 countries. Each blade undergoes over 60 quality checks and is engineered to be up to 2,000 times thinner than a strand of hair, ensuring a smooth and safe shaving experience.
Anthony Amahwe, General Manager of BIC Nigeria, said the brand’s longevity is rooted in its ability to meet everyday needs without compromising quality. “The 50-year legacy of the BIC 1 goes beyond an anniversary. It reflects how smart engineering and accessible design have shaped daily grooming for millions globally,” he said.
BIC continues to innovate with products like the BIC Flex 2 for men, featuring a dual open-blade system, pivoting head, and aloe vera- and vitamin C-enriched moisturizing strip for comfort and precision. For women, the BIC Miss Soleil razor offers a gentle but effective shave with triple-blade technology and skin-nourishing ingredients.
Sustainability is also central to BIC’s operations. The company integrates recycled materials, renewable energy, and eco-friendly packaging into its production. For example, up to 90% of razor handles, 87% of certain plastic components, and 80% of steel used in blades are recycled. Across its shaving range, 85% of packaging is reusable, recyclable, or compostable, while 92% of factory energy is sourced from renewables.
Amahwe emphasized that BIC’s continuous innovation and commitment to responsible manufacturing have kept the BIC 1 relevant across generations, ensuring everyday grooming remains simple, safe, and accessible for millions in Nigeria and beyond.
