The NNPC/Seplat Joint Venture has officially commissioned a sophisticated power distribution system and underground cabling network at the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industrial Parks Scheme (NOGAPS1) in Odukpani, Cross River State, marking a significant step in advancing Nigeria’s industrial infrastructure. The event drew senior representatives from NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), Seplat Energy Producing Nigeria Unlimited (SEPNU), and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), underscoring the strategic importance of the project for the country’s hydrocarbon sector.
The newly delivered infrastructure is a multi-layered, integrated system designed to support long-term industrial operations and ensure uninterrupted power supply. It features a modern switchgear building, 19 packaged substations, over 27 kilometres of medium-voltage underground cabling, SCADA-enabled smart power management systems, and synchronized backup generators. The installation is intended to meet global standards of industrial readiness, positioning NOGAPS1 as a modern and fully equipped hub for oil and gas-related activities.
Speaking on behalf of SEPNU’s Managing Director, the company highlighted the project as a demonstration of partnership, progress, and a shared commitment to sustainable growth within Nigeria’s hydrocarbon industry. NUIMS Chief Upstream Investment Officer Seyi Omotuwa added that the underground power system not only enhances operational efficiency but also promotes local content development, creates opportunities for industrial empowerment, and reduces reliance on imported components.
The commissioning of this advanced power infrastructure is expected to attract further investments, drive industrial development in the region, and serve as a model for modern oil and gas industrial parks across the country. By integrating cutting-edge technology with strategic planning, the project exemplifies how collaboration between public and private stakeholders can strengthen Nigeria’s energy sector and support broader economic growth.
