The immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa (rtd), has officially bowed out of active military service, declaring that he is leaving the stage with “pride and a clear conscience” after decades of meritorious service to Nigeria.

Delivering his Valedictory Remarks during his Pulling Out Parade ceremony held on Friday in Abuja, the retired General expressed profound gratitude to God for divine protection and guidance throughout his military career.

General Musa, who served as Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff until recently, said he considers it a privilege and honour to have dedicated his life to the service of the nation. He stated that he had given his utmost to the Nigerian Armed Forces and was retiring with a deep sense of fulfillment and integrity.

“As I formally retire my uniform, I am leaving the stage with pride and a clear conscience, having given my all in service to Nigeria,” he said

The retired CDS commended Nigerians from all walks of life—particularly the youth—for their unwavering faith, resilience, and prayers towards achieving a safer and more united nation. He also extended appreciation to the Nigerian media for their continuous partnership and commitment to national development.

“I may be retiring from active service today, but I will never retire from my love for Nigeria. I remain a soldier at heart and a patriot committed to the Constitution and sovereignty of our great nation,” he added.

General Musa emphasized that although his tenure in uniform had come to an end, his dedication to the ideals of peace, national unity, and security would remain unwavering. He pledged to continue serving the country in other capacities whenever duty calls.

The former CDS used the occasion to reflect on the challenges and successes recorded during his time in office, expressing optimism that Nigeria’s security architecture remains in capable hands under the current military leadership.

He also urged members of the Armed Forces to remain professional, disciplined, and loyal to the Constitution, stressing that the defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity and the protection of citizens’ lives must remain paramount.

“Our military has come a long way. We have made sacrifices, endured hardships, and stood firm in the face of challenges. The Nigerian Armed Forces remain a symbol of courage, unity, and hope for our people,” he stated.

General Musa further lauded the support he received from colleagues, subordinates, and superiors during his service years, noting that their cooperation contributed immensely to the successes achieved in tackling various security challenges across the country.

The valedictory event, attended by senior military officers, government dignitaries, and family members, featured the traditional Pulling Out Parade ceremony, marking the official end of his illustrious military career.

Musa, who was appointed Chief of Defence Staff in 2023, oversaw several key military operations and reforms aimed at strengthening joint operations, improving troop welfare, and fostering inter-agency collaboration in the fight against insecurity.

Concluding his remarks, the retired General reaffirmed his enduring faith in Nigeria and expressed confidence that the nation would overcome its current challenges and emerge stronger.

“I thank the Almighty for keeping me safe throughout my years of service. I am proud to have worn the Nigerian military uniform and to have contributed, in my own way, to the peace and stability of our beloved country,” he concluded.
