MultiChoice Nigeria has cut the cost of its DStv decoder by half, bringing the price down from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000.
The company revealed that this decision is part of its strategy to draw in new customers and counter a recent decline in subscriber numbers.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Chief Executive Officer, John Ugbe, explained that the initiative is designed to reward loyal customers and provide them with greater value.
“We want our customers to feel valued and to enjoy top-quality entertainment every day,” Ugbe said. “The ‘We Got You’ campaign is our way of making premium content more accessible. DStv is for everyone—not just sports lovers.”
He added that by redefining its platform as one that offers daily value, DStv hopes to promote more engagement with a broader range of content, including films, dramas, children’s programming, and news.
“This means viewers can enjoy more channels, more content, and more reasons to tune in regularly,” the statement emphasized.
The company also introduced a special promotion where customers who pay for their current DStv subscription package in full between June 16 and July 31, 2025, will be automatically upgraded to the next package tier at no extra cost.
MultiChoice explained that both the decoder discount and the free upgrade are part of its response to the tough economic challenges currently facing Nigerians.
This announcement comes after MultiChoice Nigeria reportedly lost 1.4 million subscribers between March 2023 and March 2025.
It’s worth recalling that the company increased prices for DStv and GOtv packages three times over the past year—first in April 2023, followed by another hike in November 2023, and most recently in April 2024, with the changes taking effect from May 1.
