STEM Africa Fest has disclosed that it has empowered 4,500 young innovators on the continent.

A statement by STEM Africa noted that this year’s festival celebrated the power of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics in transforming the lives of young Africans.

It disclosed that the event, themed, “Igniting Change through CleanTech and STEAM”, was recently held in Abuja and Lagos.

It noted that there was a STEM quiz and pitch competition, where participants competed for over N3m in prizes.

It noted that one of the participants, Ohiagu Chidiebere from Owerri, won the pitch competition, and went home the N1m grand prize.

The keynote speaker at the Abuja event, the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr Aminu Maida, said, “STEAM education results in students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, and critical thinking.”

In Lagos, the keynote speaker, the Special Assistant to the Minister of State for Environment and Ecological Management, Dr Femi Adegoke, spoke about the importance of STEAM from an early age.

One of the organisers and co-founders of STEM, Jadesola Adedeji, said, “STEM Africa Fest has grown significantly, extending its reach beyond Nigeria. This year, the festival will also take place in Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Kenya, marking a major milestone in its mission to inspire and equip Africa’s youth with the skills needed for the future.”

Also, the co-founder of 9ijakids and one of the organisers of STEM Africa Fest, Titi Adewusi, asserted, “We are thrilled to see the enthusiasm and curiosity in the eyes of the children.

“STEM Africa Fest is more than just an event; it is a movement to equip African children with the skills they need to thrive in a technology-driven world. We are grateful to our sponsors and partners for making this possible.”

According to Adewusi, as part of its commitment to empowering the next generation of African innovators and problem-solvers, the upcoming events in Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Kenya promise to build on the success of Lagos and Abuja, bringing the wonders of STEAM to even more African children.
